Appearance: Archer has a hard face, and pale skin with slicked back black hair, with sharp blue eyes that lack any sort of compassion. As a member of the Amestris Military, he is dressed in the traditional blue uniform of a member of the State Military. He is rarely seen without a serious look, or at least without the calculating smirk that he so often gets when he has a plan in mind.

Personality: Cold and cruel with a strong sense of bloodlust, Archer has no interest in fairplay or any sort of kindness. He is concerned only with what would further himself and his goals. He has a strong love for war, and everything he does involving battle is planned to further the chance of more wars. There is a quality to him that makes him care for Zolf Kimblee, although he would deny the exact relationship he has with the other man, except to say it is a meeting of similar interests and that the other is not guilty for the "crimes" he committed.

Abilities/Strengths: As a Colonel, Archer has knowledge of battle and of fighting, and is quite skilled at keeping people in line. He has an assertiveness that makes him a master of overseeing combat, and one that allowed him to quickly rise to the rank of Colonel. His interest in furthering his goals allows him to be a master manipulator.

Weaknesses: Archer's inability to show any empathy and his love of any type of conflict make him a type to get impatient very quickly. Also, he is very possessive and protective of Kimblee, and has a tendency to fly into a rage if the other man is somehow harmed. With the exception of Kimblee, Archer has absolutely no care for human life, or for what could be the result of combat.

Notable Possessions: Archer carries a military-standard gun with him at all times.

History: Not much is known about Frank Archer before he joined the military. What is known is that he joined up, and stayed mostly in the shadows until Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes was gunned down. He was then promoted to Lt. Colonel, and put in charge of returning Edward and Alphonse Elric to the military. Upon the discovery of Wrath with the Elric boys, Archer changed his tactic to finding the Homonculus.

At the attack on the South Headquarters, Archer confronted Kimblee about returning to the military, only to leave. Some time later, Kimblee returned to accept Archer's offer, and told him where to find Greed, at the Devil's Nest. They attack, Kimblee holding the bag of Greed's remains, assuring that Greed will not attack them for fear of them being destroyed. Later, the Lt. Colonel welcomes Shou Tucker and Zolf Kimblee formally back into the military.

Shortly before the attack on Lior, the Fuhrer granted him the title of Colonel. On the train headed to Lior, the other State Alchemists are shocked to learn that Kimblee is alive. When Archer explains that he was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, and escaped before he could be experimented on in Lab 5. When the Fuhrer tells Archer that the attack will be delayed, he is enraged, but obeys the Fuhrer's orders. Archer shows the experiments that Tucker created to Riza, Roy, and Armstrong, offering them parting words of how he shall become a hero before he leaves them for dead.

It is only after Kimblee's dead body is thrown from a roof that Archer initiates the attack. Moments before the transmutation circle in Lior is finished, Archer found himself in someplace that was very different than the desert he had just been.
